Manchester Road Race, Silicon Valley and Dana Point All Hosting Pros at Turkey Trots on Thanksgiving Day

By Adam Kopet

Runners will be taking to the roads all across the country on Thursday for annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trots, including a handful of pro runners.

Edward Cheserek of Kenya will return to the Manchester Road Race (4.748 miles) where he won last year in a course record 21:16.

On the other side of the country, the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot  will host a number of fast athletes with world and American records on some of their minds.

Kenya's David Bett has his eyes set on the road 5K world record of 13:22. The road record was added to the record books for the first time in 2018.

Lawi Lalang, who has recently become eligible to compete for the United States, could factor in the race as well. He has a personal best of 13:00.95 on the track from 2013. The American record, which has been recognized longer than the world record, stands at 13:20. Jeff Thies, who finished third at the USATF 5 km Championships, is also in the field.

The women's race could also see the American record of 14:50 go down with the likes of Shannon Rowbury in the field. She will be joined by other top Americans including Emily Infeld, Kim Conley and Stephanie Bruce.

Another race that will feature pro athletes is the Dana Point Turkey Trot. Scott Smith and Rory Linkletter, both of whom are coming off October marathons, are set to compete.
